The Jinfoshang Mt. Wilderness Tour area (Simian Mountains
Area)
Mt.
Simian strategically crisscrosses Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan provinces and
the Chongqing municipality yet located in the northern part of Jiangjing
County. The favorable climate and sufficient rainfall has made this entire
region into a dense lush forest. There are many waterfalls and some are
yet unnamed. Wangxiangtai (the Balcony of Nostalgia) Waterfall at 150
meters high and 40 meters wide is one of the major waterfalls in China
but it is many up of many smaller waterfalls. Shuikoushi Waterfall is
noted for its grand scale, snaking its way among the valleys on Mt Simian,
with the current of Chaba River causing a number of lakes to form, of
which the most majestic one is known as the great Red Sea.
The Jinfo Range Consists of three hills (Jinfo, Baizhi and Qingba) and
is located in the south part of Nanchuan city. Primitive vegetation is
so well preserved on this range area that it is listed as the largest
natural botanical garden in China. The garden has more than 5,000 species
of plants. About 250 of them areclassified as ancient plants and 49 as
rare plants.
There are also a total of 1,987 types of fir trees known to be a living
fossil.
On Mt Jinfo there are over 5,000 varieties of subtropical plants, including
such rare species as gingko, Chinese yew and the "living fossil"
met sequoia. There are now 49 varieties of the plants that have been listed
under the state protection list for preservation. Mt Jinfo is also a scenic
spot and summer resort in the suburbs of Chongqing.
