Chengde is the resort village in the mountains, 230 kilometers from Beijing where early emperors built the original Imperial Summer Villa in a remote location that is now linked with trains and roads. It was one of the first ancient cities listed by the government as a heritage sight and is one of the ten most popular scenic spots. In 1994, the Mountain Resort were designated as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

The Mountain Resort - was the site of the original Summer Villa, also named the Temporary Imperial Dwelling Palace in Rehe. It was built during the Qing Dynasty during the reign of Emperors Kang Xi and Qian Long. The sprawling grounds are filled with 120 ancient buildings, such as pavilions, towers and temples.
Eight Outer Monasteries - were built in clusters on the eastern and western slopes of the Mountain Resort. It is intriguing with contrasting architectural styles harmoniously blending with the ornate construction of Puning Temple, Putuo Zongcheng Temple and Pule Temple.
Jinshanling - is one of the most imposing parts of the Great Wall that is well preserved.
