Ocean and was known as the place that the ships of emperors passed.
Tianjin has many colourful tourist attractions - 1,500 years old
Great Wall in Huangyuguan and the 1,000 years old temple "Dulesi".
Seafaring European nations that were developing trade routes in
the area found the port of Tianjin appealing and it gained importance
after the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). This is when fighting erupted
and the Treaty of Tianjin was signed in 1856 with concessions granted
to the French and British. The Europeans settled and built homes
that were replicas of those from their native countries. The European
architecture of this old settlement from the avenues and boulevards
continues to be an attraction in Tianjin. Shoppers fill Ancient
Culture Street, recreated from the turn of the century selling high
quality gifts and souvenirs. The Antique Market along Shenyang Jie
sells endless stocks of Mao memorabilia, curios and collectibles
and with both areas
having lively atmospheres. |
