Fuzhou - Drum Mountain and Spouting
Fountain Temple
Located in the eastern suburb
of Fuzhou, Drum Mountain stands on the northern bank of the Minjiang
River. The Spouting Fountain Temple was built on the mountain in
908. There is a spouting fountain in front of the temple and that
is why the temple acquired its name. The Drum Mountain has many
scenic attractions and historic sites, including 25 buildings in
traditional Chinese architectural style and more than twenty thousand
volumes of precious Buddhist scriptures and literature in different
versions of various periods. There are 160 scenic spots scattered
around the temple: the Spiritual Source Cave in the east and 18
caves in the west known as the 18 scenes of West Hill. Numerous
poems are engraved by famous men of letters on the stone slates
of the mountain.

Dongshan
Ridge stands about 7 kilometers east of Wanning County in Hainan province
at 184 meters above sea level covering some 10 square kilometers. It is
dotted with mysterious caves, steep cliffs, mild springs and beautiful
trees. There are eight unusual scenes in addition to a few temples and
many stone tablets. The peak of the mountain is a vantage position for
watching the South China Sea. It is so praised as the "first mountain
in Hainan" because of its southernmost location.
