The Celestial Capital Peak (Tiandu)
The Celestial Capital Peak is one of the steepest and breathtaking peaks
of Mount Huang rising 1,810 meters above sea level. At the top of the
peak is a stone carving of 4 Chinese characters "Deng Feng Zao Ji
" (the highest peak), as the peak is
the highest of all the hills in the surrounding area. A traveler in old
times that failed to reach the top sighed as he composed this poem:
How I wish I could ride a crane some day
To view the sea of clouds over Tiandu Peak.
The top of the peak is flat with a natural cave large enough to hold
more than one hundred people. The saying goes: without reaching Jade Screen
Pavilion, a panoramic view of the mountain is impossible; without climbing
Tiandu Peak, your trip is in vain.
The Bright Mountain Top
This ridge is located at the eastern end of 1000-meter-long Pingtiangang.
It is a look out area where people can watch the cloud sea of Mount Huang
and an ideal place to view the sunrise. The Huangshan Meteorological Station
is also situated here.
The Lion Peak
The Lion Peak is the name given to this area with several peaks and
architecture. The lion's head is Danxia Peak above the Dianxian Deep Pool,
the lion's waist is the Qingliang Rostrum and the lion's tail is the Dawn
Pavilion. At the mouth of the lion's head is a colorful temple.
The Lion Building
The so-called Lion Building is situated to the south of Lion Peak with
pines and cypresses reaching toward the sky yet thick grass and plants
cover the ground. Among the precipitous cliffs is the Qingliang Rostrum,
which is the best place for viewing the cloud sea of the back mountain.
On the left and right of the Lion Peak are stalagmites. To the north of
the Lion Peak is the wonderful scenery of "The Lion looking to Taiping
County" and "Magic Brush in Flower".
36 Small Peaks
These cluster of peaks surround Pipeng, which is situated on the way between
the west of the Lion Forest and the Cloudy Valley. Legend has it that
a monk lived here in a hut made of bark for 30 years. In the surroundings
are 36 extraordinary and beautiful small peaks.
