LAKE TAIPING - An Emerald
Lake
Taiping is the largest manmade lake in Anhui Province with water as clear
as a mirror. Itcovers an area of 90 km2, with anaverage depth of over 40m,
a storage - capacity of 2.4m3, anda winding waterway of 80km2 long. More
than 10 islands, isolated from each other, lie on the lake like water lilies
sleeping apart yet neatly adjoined beneath the water. From an overall view
above, you will see the sky and the lake blended as one color, yet boating
on the lake, you will find yourself encircled in a green world. Thus, the
lake is famed as the Green Emerald.
IMMORTALS
CAVE IN QIAOSHAN MOUNTAIN
The Immortals Cave is located on Qiaoshan Mountain just next to Lake Taiping
in the Huangshan Tourist Zone. It is a carst cave of about 3,000m in length.
All along the cave are stalactites, stalagmites and trickling springs. One
encounters crisscross caves inside and winding brooks below. The Immortals
Cave offers an entrancing sight, as well as cool and refreshing air. The
constant temperature remains around 15- 20 centigrade. The cave has been
a scenic spot ever since the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the inscriptions
written by ancient poets are still discernible to this day. |
