Macau is a free port and there is no additional sales tax charged. Jewelry, particularly gold, Chinese antiques, porcelain, pottery, electronic gadgetry, cameras, watches and beadingworks are the most popular goods for visitors. They are available at duty-free prices and bargaining is expected and welcomed on many items. Other popular buys are Chinese herbs and medicines, dried seafood such as sharks' fins and abalone, Chinese and Macanese pastry tarts, and locally made knitwear sold at stalls.

When purchasing antiques, gold and jewelry, it is advisable to patronize shops recommended by the Goldsmiths' and Jewelers' Association and the Macau Government Tourist Office. A warranty and a receipt should be presented after purchasing jewelry, gold, cameras, watches and electrical goods.

The main shopping area is located along the Avenida do Infante D Henrique and Avenida AlmeidaRibeiro, S Domingos Market, Rua do Campo and Rua Pedro Nolasco da Silva. Antiques and unique gifts may be found in Macau's flea market in the pedestrian lanes near St Paul's Ruins. Avenida Almeida Ribeiro is where Armani has a large boutique; Avenida do Infante D. Henrique, Rua do Campo and the Outer Harbor is the place to find brand-name fashions, duty-free cosmetics, high quality children wear, bargain-priced electronics and much more at the New Yaohan and Landmark department stores.
