Wu Gorge (Wuxia)
The
Yangtze River flows out of Qutang Gorge, past the broad valley of the
Daning River then enters the scenic Wu Gorge.
Wu
Gorge stretches for 45 kilometers eastward from the mouth of the Daning
River, east of Wushan Town, Sichuan Province, to Guandukou, Hubei Province.
The
Gorge is most famous for its Kong Ming Tablet, named after the ancient
strategist Zhu Geliang about 1700 years ago. It is a large slab of rock
inscribed with a description of the alliance between the Shu and Wu
states. The Tablet actually rese mbles
a huge pair of scissors, pointing skywards. Badong is the main town
along this stretch, situated on the southern bank of the river within
the gorge.
Twelve
Peaks line the banks of the Gorge here, rising thousands of meters into
the sky, amongst which Wangxia Peak (or the Goddess Peak) is the most
beautiful.
