Ting Ri

Mount Qomolangma, 8848.13 meters above sea level, the No. 1 highest mountain on earth, is situated in the county of Ting Ri in the middle sector of the Himalayas. Within the area of 5,000 square meters around Ting Ri, there are 4 mountains 8,000 meters above sea level and 38 mountains 7,000 meters above sea level. Thus making Ding Ri the most active climbing camping site. Distance between Ding Ri and Flannelette Temple is only 70 km, but it takes more than 3 hours to pass through the rough land. Entry to Flannelette Temple costs USD$2.63. Vehicles need to pay "cleaning fee" while passing through Mount Qomolangma nature reserve. Smaller vehicles need to pay USD$52.63 while larger vehicles needs to pay USD$78.95.

Flannelette Temple: 5,100 meters above sea level. Built in 1899. It is the temple which is situated at the highest hillside in the world and there are 8 small subsidiary temples.

Address :New Ting Ri, with no telephone or fax machines but posting letters is available here. If you like to see the morning and night scenes of Mount Qomolangma, you are suggested living in Flannelette Temple.
Transport : Rent a 4wd jeep. Very unlikely to hitch a hike.

Zhangmu

Zhangmu is 810 km apart from Lhasa. The capital of Nepal is only 90 km away from Zhangmu. Therefore many out-of-town tourists consider this the gate to Tibet. The distance between Ding Ri and Se La Mu is 200 km. Travelers can enjoy mountain scenes along the road. It is only 30 km to travel from Se La Mu to Zhangmu. While passing through the highway, you can feel an acute difference. Thirty minutes before you see grassland first and later forest. The temperature also rises a lot.

Accommodation: All the corporations are built on the slope of Zhangmu. The Zhangmu Hotel contains good equipment. The air is clean and wet and the scenery is attractive as the hotel is facing the green forest and a peaceful river. Looking from the balcony in the east you can see the lorries and crowds. And from the balcony in the west, you can see the Bridge of Friendship in Nepal and paths between mountains.
