Nagqu is 332 km apart from Lhasa. It is located at the south path of Qing Zang Highway. It is among the best highway in Tibet. There are buses in and out. If you would like to take a look at the Lake Nam-tso, you should hire a vehicle like 4wd jeep. It normally takes a 3-day trip for Lhasa - Nam-tso - Nagqu. Starting from Lhasa in the morning, then having lunch in Dang Xiong. After turning into a rough road heading the north side from the edge of the county, you will soon arrive Nyainqen-tangula Mountain. You will then climb up the peak after driving for 40 km. The road is smooth and icy in winter and is muddy in summer. Therefore, the best climate to drive on the road is spring and autumn. When you arrive Na Gang Kou, you can see the bright lake surface of Lake Nam-tso in the western side. Follow the smooth road down the mountain, you may then see the lake. However, the road is heading for Nam village government at the north side. You cannot see the other side of the shore of Lake Nam-tso.

The heart of Lake Nam-tso consists of 5 islands. The area of the largest one is 1.24 km2. Besides, there are 5 peninsulas at the middle of the lake. Zha Xi Peninsula on the north shore is the biggest one. It is 10km2 large. The landscape on the island is attractive. There is only one hotel on Zha Xi Peninsula, with only 15 beds costing USD$1.97 per night. Other than hot seasons, there are not many people going there. But during the year-end of Goat, according to the traditions of Tibet, Tibetan like to circulate clockwise along Lake Nam-tso. This is called "pilgrimage for the year of Goat".

Nagqu

August is the peak season for Nagqu grasslands, with big wind and rain in the night and shines bright at daytime. The annual grassland horse-racing festival is held during August. There is a wide lawn at the north side of Nagqu. The local people called this as "Zhong Yin Ka Duo" grassland. During the horse-racing festival, there will be thousands of tents setting up on that area. It makes the grassland look like a small town. At the same time, there is "resources exchange meeting held in Nagqu. This is a large trading event with lots of rich people there. Their necks and waists are full of jewelleries, and you will find all kinds of clothing. That is the most convenient and economic time to visit and understand the tradition of Nagqu in North Tibet.

Transport : There is no public large bus, only medium-sized buses. The bus fare is USD$0.26. Taxi drivers do not use meters and they will charge a flat rate of USD$1.32 within the town. Out-of-town trip should first be negotiated.
