Nagqu is 332
km apart from Lhasa. It is located at the south path of Qing Zang
Highway. It is among the best highway in Tibet. There are buses
in and out. If you would like to take a look at the Lake Nam-tso,
you should hire a vehicle like 4wd
jeep. It normally takes a 3-day trip for Lhasa - Nam-tso - Nagqu.
Starting from Lhasa in the morning, then having lunch in Dang
Xiong. After turning into a rough road heading the north side
from the edge of the county, you will soon arrive Nyainqen-tangula
Mountain. You will then climb up the peak after driving for 40
km. The road is smooth and icy in winter and is muddy in summer.
Therefore, the best climate to drive on the road is spring and
autumn. When you arrive Na Gang Kou, you can see the bright lake
surface of Lake Nam-tso in the western side. Follow the smooth
road down the mountain, you may then see the lake. However, the
road is heading for Nam village government at the north side.
You cannot see the other side of the shore of Lake Nam-tso.
The heart of
Lake Nam-tso
consists of 5 islands. The area of the
largest one is 1.24 km2. Besides, there are 5 peninsulas
at the middle of the lake. Zha Xi Peninsula on the north shore
is the biggest one. It is 10km2 large. The landscape
on the island is attractive. There is only one hotel on Zha Xi
Peninsula, with only 15 beds costing USD$1.97 per night. Other
than hot seasons, there are not many people going there. But during
the year-end of Goat, according to the traditions of Tibet, Tibetan
like to circulate clockwise along Lake Nam-tso. This is called
"pilgrimage for the year of Goat".
Nagqu
August is the peak season for Nagqu grasslands,
with big wind and rain in the night and shines bright at daytime.
The annual grassland horse-racing festival is held during
August. There is a wide lawn at the north side of Nagqu. The local
people called this as "Zhong Yin Ka Duo" grassland. During the
horse-racing festival, there will be thousands of tents setting
up on that area. It makes the grassland look like a small town.

Nagqu. This is a large trading event with lots of rich people
