C ycling
tour is now in trend. It is a challenge to your physical strength
and your will. It is also an alternative choice within economic
restrictions. You may encounter many unexpected problems if you
do not plan your trip precisely. Here are some suggestions for
the preparations of the trip to Tibet. You must be very brave.

Cycling Route in Qing Zang:
It is 1155 km from Ge Er Mu to Lhasa and you
should spend at least 15 days for the whole journey.
Ge Er Mu - Kun Lun Mountain:
160 km, 2-day trip. This is the first threshold to the plateau
area. If you are not in ideal physical condition, it may take
you 3 days for the trip. It is not easy to get supply along the
way and the scenery there is bleak and desolate. Walk slowly along
the gentle slope to make yourself adapt to the high elevation
gradually. You may set up the tent during the sunset and be careful
of the cold weather at night. The north side of Kun Lun mountain
is Yu Xu Peak (6138 m above sea level) and the east side is Yu
Zhu Peak (6179 m above sea level).
Kun Lun mountain - Wu Dao Liang:
109 km, 1-day trip. The road is flat and muddy. Pay attention
to a hot spring by the road-side near La Chi Tai the water of
which is 7 degrees in Celsius all the year round. Wu Dao Liang:
is 5000 meters above sea level where there are guesthouses and
restaurants. Remind yourself to fill up the supply there.
Wu Dao Liang - Tuo Tuo River:
150 km, 2-day trip. This distance is about 500 meters and not
easy to cover for the weather is extremely cold at night and windy
in the daytime. You may stay overnight at Er Dao Gou for the first
night.
Tuo Tuo River - Yan Shi Ping:
91km, 1-day trip. Be sure not to miss the sunrise at Tuo Tuo River.
Yan Shi Ping - Tang Gu La mountain pass:
Around 100km, 1-day trip. Tou Dao Ban - An Duo, 70-km downhill
path, 1/2 day trip and the scenery is attractive. An Duo - Nagqu,
138 km, 2-day trip. You may stay overnight at Liang Dao He.
Nagqu - Dang Xiong: 146 km, 2-day
trip. It is worthy to spend 3 days taking a good look at the typical
scenery of splendid North Tibet. When you arrive Dang Xiong, do
not forget to visit Na Mu Cuo. Dang Xiong is 150 km away from
Lhasa (take 2 days) and you may stay overnight at Yang Ba Jing.
If everything run smoothly, it takes you 15-16 days to get to
Lhasa.
