In the Villages there are 24 sets of buildings including mountain villages ,residential compounds , streets and markets . Each of them has its own characteristic feature , forming a relatively independent " small community " . Among the 86 building units are 65 civilian residences and 21 supplementary structures , occupying an area of 21,000 square meters , In addition there are 8 fairly large open-air singing and dancing grounds . Performances of folk songs and dances of different nationalities are to be given in 16 villages .The songs and dances retain a strong local flavour and distinctive nationality .Performances are also to be given on nearly 80 landscape units by actors and actresses recruited from areas inhabited by minority nationalities . Civilian residences in the villages , all beautifully furnished , reproduce in a real and typical way of the living environments of the various nationalities . The folk custom show and arts parade , also possessing distinctive features and irresistible charms , unfold a succession of moving pictures vividly reflecting the folk customs and conditions all over China . The landscape of the Villages , which is the product of the clever use of the natural environment and architectural features of various villages , reproduces in a creative way the natural wonders of mountains and rivers , thus heightening the expressive effect of the customs and conditions of different nationalities .The East Gate is a characteristic of the scenery of South China .The artificial stone forest is modelled on the natural wonder of Stone Forest in Yunnan .The ancient cave in the Miao Village reflects the quintessential sights of karst caves of Guizhou . The tower , Pagoda temple and archways are exquisitely built . All of them are very much worth seeing . In addition , Cuihu Lake and Moon Lake form a water area of 35,000 square meters with a navigable course two kilometers long , and provide an arena for aquatic sports like the Dragon Boat race . Over the waters are built 12 bridges . of all forms and shapes ,including the stone arch bridges .There are also enchanting streams , springs , waterfalls and a colorful music fountains .
