|
Matteo Ricci's tomb is located two miles from Beijing 's west gate.
The tomb is shaped as a small hill and the title on the tomb reads,
'1610, Pioneer of Christian Missionary'. There is a cross carved on
the tomb with inscription in both Latin and Chinese. On the two sides
are the tombs of Ferdinand Verbiest, and Jojann Adam Scall von Bell.
The communist Chinese believe the tomb is symbolic because of Ricci's
achievements in China and they have been diligent to do a good job
in its upkeep and protect the tomb from vandalism. |
