Nanguan Mosque is situated in the south of Yinchuan City. It was originally
built in 1915 and was rebuilt in 1981.
It coversan area of 2074 square meters and was divided into two parts. The
Prayer Hall can hold over 1,000 people. It is a building of distinctive
Islamic architectural styles. |

Grand Mosque at Tongxin |

The Grand Mosque is located in the old site of Tongxin City of Ningxia.
The structure was allegedly built in the years of Wan Li during the Ming
Dynasty (1368--1644) while renovations were made in the 56th year of Emperor
Qian Longs long reign during the Qing Dynasty (1791) and then in the 33rd
year of Emperor Guangxu (1907). The Grand Mosque is one of the largest and
the oldest Islamic religious buildings in Ningxia. Among its major structures
are the Hall of Worship, The Chamber of Rites and the Residential Halls
for the Imams. The Hall of Worship is the main structure of the mosque.
The building is supported by 20 big
columns and paved with wooden planks. The buildings in the mosque are an
artful integration of Han and Islamic architectural styles.

Situated in the southwestern part of Beijing on Niujie (Ox Street) is a
Muslim residential area. Niujie Mosque, the oldest and largest mosque in
Beijing, is conveniently located on the street and was built in the Liao
Dynasty (996). In the Ming and Qing dynasties, the mosque was renovated
several times. Among the main buildings are Prayer Hall and Tower for Observing
the Moon. Some
of the halls and towers are in Muslim style, with decorations of scriptures
in Arabic language and patterns of flowers. This temple is an important
place for the gathering of people of the Hui nationality (Muslim) in Beijing.
