Hong Kong is a compact city and it is very easy to get around for self-exploration. English is widely spoken and there is a very efficient public transport system. English is rarely heard in China, except in the hotels in Beijing so this is why it is highly recommended to go on an escorted tour for a more pleasant experience with all details prearranged.
