OCT: abbreviated term for
Overseas Chinese Town, located in Nanshan district of Shenzhen
and is famous for different theme parks within the community.
The parks of Window
of the World, Splendid
China, China
Folk Culture Villages and newly opened Happy
Valley have been the major tourist attractions of the city.
You can’t foot it all these theme parks in a day though
they are minutes walk away from each other, or, you may
choose some by your own standby.
A size-decreased version of Eiffel Tower facing the front
entrance is the catchiest landmark of Window of the World
where you can find many such copied architectures of worldly
fame in the park, even including the Twin Towers of New
York. As an analogy, a sweeping collection of renowned artificial
and natural landmarks of China constitute the theme of Splendid
China, while China Folk Culture Villages stand out for affluent
exotic folk custom based on different 56 ethnic folks living
in this vast country by way of deliberate highlighting typical
living scenes and rendering sensuous entertaining shows.
Happy Valley, on the opposite side of above three theme
parks, is more like a big outdoor playground for kids outfitted
with adrenaline-pumping fun equipment; yet people tends
to swarm for Maya Beach in Happy Valley to take part in
water activities in hot summertime. Band and stage performances
are on the event menu in daily basis as well.
OCT, in another side, is actually an upholstered residential
community in the city. Best designed and well built properties
muster here with neatly-arranged web of lanes and corner
green turf. Wal-Mart and many boutique shops find their
toe-hold here, sharing ruddy good commercial edge with Crown
Plaza hotel and a series of other 4-and 5-star hotels.
The first period of MTR system covers a route between Lohu
railway station and OCT so when you step out of Hong Kong
territory it takes about 30 minutes to get you to OCT.
Shekou: For local Shenzhen
citizens, Shekou is perhaps most exotic district in the
city, or the most European stylish contributed by a good
number of western restaurants, pubs and cantinas that spread
in main drag and alleys but center on Sea
World, a multi-pronged revelry arena on the decks
of a castoff passenger liner at
Shekou quayside.
Shekou district in a sense is the avant-courier in the city
or over whole country in inviting overseas investment. Accompanying
throw-in money, foreigners invaded and consequentially have
formed their own community where English is their communication
language notwithstanding a dominant Italian restaurants
and Mediterranean bars, café.
Comparing with other districts of Shenzhen, Shekou is less
populated and almost all streets are shaded in cool-off
tree boughs. At sunset locals love to saunter by lawn lanes
and find a seat under a big parasol on outdoor turf of a
café gawking at passersby or gazing on the silhouette
of opposite waterfront hills and high-rises in Hong Kong
over an ocean strait.
Ocean Turbojet passenger boat connects Hong Kong and Shekou
by regular schedule everyday. |
