Even the Hong
Kongers did not expect a neighboring fishing village under
Guangdong provincial jurisdiction is now developed into
a metropolis with a population over 10 millions just 20
years ago. Hundreds of
thousands Hong Kong citizens pack in queues to check in
or out either at Lohu or at Huang Gang Customs pass (there
are two other minor passes elsewhere) bordering Hong Kong
and Shenzhen everyday. They rush to this budding city for
business or, simply for a leisure break with fadeless enthusiasm.
The city has given many opportunities for Hong Kong factory
owners to make a pile or for shopping addicts to enjoy a
buying spree for its low labor cost and lesser consuming
prices, despite the fact that the living cost in this city
mounts the top among all other Chinese cities. The vantage
ground of distinctive cost gap even spurs some Hong Kong
travelers to hop across border and take internal
flights at Shenzhen for their domestic destinations;
well, it always makes sense to be cost-minded especially
when this fledgling but also a modern town in embryo is
starting to offer up-to-date living and shopping pomp and
circumstance, from flickering super malls to theme parks.
In this article, we bring forth a list of “must go”
places in the city.
Dongmen:
the most popular and time-honored shopping block
in the center of Lohu district. Few international
brand but quite a lot tawdry trinkets and locally manufactured
fashion stuff mustered in small yet dapper shops. Big varieties
of merchandises ranging from drapers, shoes, house adornments
to angling rods and tailor shop with compelling prices are
very beckoning to almost all stratums; however, haggling
in persistence is a must to get your bargain deal here.
You may also easily find KFC and McDonald¡¦s
and even more Chinese restaurants or deli stalls in this
pedestrian block. Business hours all day from late morning
to midnight in Dongmen. There goes MTR from Lohu border
customs just two stops away.
Huaqiangbei: the corresponding
transcribing in English is Huaqiang North Road, also, a
block of shopping but electronic gadget overwhelms the merchandise
display
on shelves and counters. If you are looking for a laptop
or an iPod, MP3 something, you hit the spot here. Loads
of unauthorized computer software, CD & DVD dishes are
available in sneak.
In the back corner of MOI super mall building a free market
named Jia Hua is the Mekka on backpacker gears. On view
at this unembellished bungaloid shopping area are categories
covering climbing boots, alpenstock, headgears, jackets,
coffee cooker, knapsacks, and camping tent and so on. Don’t
take the attached brands seriously, quite possibly they’re
faked stuff.
Restaurants and bars are densely located in the block and
nightlife is effervescent lasting till over midnight.
There is a MTR station nearby, save for numerous buses and
minibuses passing by. |
